Early Life
Phrolova came from a pastoral town. The first time she traveled far from home on her own was to take part in a concert, wearing a dress her mother had carefully chosen for her. Before she left, however, she quarreled with her mother, for reasons unknown, and her mother did not come to see her off. When she returned home after the performance, a merciless natural disaster had just taken her home and her family. Phrolova herself awakened her Resonance Power upon dying, and from then on became half Tacet Discord, beyond death and decay.

To bring the villagers back to life, and perhaps to give her mother the apology she still owed her, Phrolova sealed the villagers' echoes within her right eye and searched for a way for several hundred years (including turning to devout faith in a Sentinel and submitting to scientific research), enduring abuse and scheming at the hands of others all the while.
Having lost everything, Phrolova dressed in mourning and traveled from place to place, aimlessly holding concerts at which she played "funeral music." At one of these concerts, Rover, seated in the audience, heard the deep sorrow in her music. After speaking with her, Rover promised Phrolova to keep coming to her performances. But Rover later reset, erasing their own memories, to save the world, and so broke the promise indefinitely. In the end, after holding many concerts without once seeing Rover, Phrolova was certain that Rover would not come again.

Through the long wait and one failure after another, Phrolova lost heart, until the Grand Architect of the Fractsidus, disguised as a "devoted listener," extended an olive branch to her. Phrolova decided to join the Fractsidus and set in motion her plan to create the Lost Beyond. Yet in the end, even the Lost Beyond could not bring back her mother's figure.
Huanglong · Chapter I, Act III: Ominous Star
After Scar abducted Yangyang in Qichi Village, Phrolova (credited at this point as the "Mysterious Woman in Red") appeared and warned Scar: "Don't let your improvisation trouble others." Scar replied: "No worries. I know all the dos and don'ts. I don't need you to tell me what to do." For all his bluster, Scar was then defeated by Rover in Act IV, Clashing Blades.
Huanglong · Chapter I, Act VI: Grand Warstorm
Phrolova stood on a clifftop waving her Lycoris baton, and a wave of Tacet Discords surged forth. (According to her character profile report, however, Phrolova has no ability to summon Tacet Discords, and even in a state of extreme Overclocking she can sustain long-range attunement only very briefly. Perhaps it was simply the Threnodian summoning the tide of Tacet Discords while Phrolova, standing to one side, indulged in a bit of theatrical posturing.) [In Chapter II, Act VII, Dreamcatchers in the Secret Gardens, Phrolova explained what she had done in Jinzhou: fusing the Reverberations of fallen Midnight Rangers with the husks of Tacet Discords.]
Rinascita · Chapter II, Act III: What Yesterday Wept, Today Doth Sing
As the festive atmosphere of the Ragunna Carnevale reached its peak, Phrolova appeared in the city. When Rover caught up with her, a standoff followed. Phrolova extended an invitation, saying that Rover and the Fractsidus shared the same goal: both had come in search of that "extraordinary Resonator." As a gesture of goodwill for their cooperation, Phrolova wished to trade a story with Rover, using the city of Ragunna as a stage on which to convey a "truth." She drew everyone into a space of her own creation and delivered three prophecies (the foreshadowing in these prophecies was later paid off by Fenrico, Primus of the Order of the Deep):
...shatter these burdensome stones—abandon the trifles of sentiment, and you shall ascend the throne....dispel all illusions—no mortal shall inflict upon you even the slightest harm....pleasure born of violence shall end in violence.
In the end, Phrolova was defeated by the group. Rover severed her Lycoris baton with a scythe, and for the first time the right eye beneath her eyepatch was revealed.
Rinascita · Chapter II, Act V: Shadow of Glory
In the underground palace of Septimont, Phrolova and Cristoforo found the body of Mya, the former gladiator champion, inside an experimental apparatus. They also learned that Mya had sacrificed herself to stop the Threnodian from seizing her body, making for upper Septimont, and unleashing the Dark Tide. The fragments of the Threnodian had already awakened, so Cristoforo wrote a script based on the Threnodian's unfinished business, meant to nurture its power; once the Threnodian's strength reached a certain level, the script would be laid over all of Septimont, and even all of Solaris-3.
After Rover said goodbye to Lupa and went to rest at their lodgings, Phrolova broke into Rover's dream and revealed that her colleague, the Fractsidus member Cristoforo, was writing a story set in Septimont that would span three days. Phrolova handed Rover a script, declared that Lupa would unleash the Dark Tide on the day of the finals, and tempted Rover: by killing Lupa, Rover could become the protagonist of the story and change its ending.
Rinascita · Chapter II, Act VII: Dreamcatchers in the Secret Gardens
Phrolova went to the Fabricatorium of the Deep, intending to seize the Threnodian's Gem to complete her plan of perfecting the Lost Beyond. Gravely wounded, she joined forces with Rover, and together they set out for Primus Fenrico, who had fallen into madness. To help Rover, and at the same time to win Rover's trust, Phrolova handed her Lycoris baton over to Rover.
Phrolova: We'll descend from here. The path ahead should be safe.
(The rail breaks, and the two of them fall off the track)
Rover: You...
Phrolova: ...I didn't expect this either.
Rover: Stay on guard. The Echoes might attack us.
Phrolova: They won't. They're not fully developed yet.
(The incubation pods rupture, and the Echoes attack the two of them)
Phrolova: (combat alert triggers) Will the approaching sounds be... beautiful enough?
Rover: Maybe you should stop talking for now.
On the way to their destination, Rover repeatedly glimpsed Phrolova's past, in which even Rover appeared, yet remained skeptical of how much of her story was true.
As they drew near, they found Fenrico, beguiled by the Threnodian, amplifying the power of the Gem. Phrolova and Rover realized that Fenrico had become the Threnodian's proxy; after stopping him and bringing him back to himself, the two faced off once more over the Gem. In the end, Phrolova seized the Gem, but Rover then ran her through the heart with a sword and she fell into the sea, while the Gem was recovered by the Fractsidus.
Rinascita · Chapter II, Act XI: Dawn Breaks on Dark Tides
After the Threnodian Leviathan was defeated by Rover and the others, Phrolova complained to Cristoforo that he had lost the Gem, and asked how much of Leviathan's power he still had. Cristoforo said it was not much, but enough; judging from the instability of the Journeying Paradise, however, that power still fell short of Phrolova's standards for constructing the "Beyond."
Phrolova told Cristoforo and Scar that if nothing new came of it, she would seek a path of her own, and then turned and left. On her way out she passed the Grand Architect, Schwarzloch. Schwarzloch did nothing to smooth over the rift within the group, but said that even with their differences, their roads would lead to the same place.
